Thoughts

If it wasn't for Pat, I would never have trapped my first feral cat, or learned so, much about them, and carried on trapping through my time with Croydon Cats Protection, then as Welfare officer and Coordinator at Haverhill Cats Protection until my present time involved with Colne Valley Cats Protection. Pat stayed a friend throughout, and after my wedding in 2005, presented me with a wonderful handmade manual cat trap along with catching box for my wedding present, and a gift voucher for my husband. That trap is still in use, and well maintained, most recently to catch some feral kittens and their mum and dad at some local stables, where I was offered a pony to ride whenever I liked in return. Something I know Pat would have loved. Even though I had moved many miles away, she never failed to phone me every new year, and we'd have a good long chat about cats and Badgers, as I became a member of my local badger group and also went to several badger cull zones to try and save some lives during the Badger cull, something Pat was very pleased I was doing. Pat often regaled me with tales about her Badger visitors, who she had names for, who would visit her for food. One used to jump up at her, nearly knocking her flying, she said. I miss Pat so much, miss our phone chats, and hope someone is feeding her Badgers for her. Whenever anyone asks me about how I started trapping or helping ferals, I always tell them about Pat. I miss you Pat. All my love forever. xxxx

We met in an air raid shelter. I was a refugee from Nazi Germany, living in Sanderstead until just after the war when I went off to Chile to re-join my parents. Decades later, back in the UK, I was looking for a cat and... you've guessed it! to my incredulous delight our paths crossed again! Never, ever, have I met anyone remotely like Pat : such energy despite so many physical obstacles, such whole-hearted dedication and generosity of spirit, warmth and ready wit... RIP beloved friend; you will continue to be an inspiration to all of us lucky enough to have known you!
